what is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is an ancient form of Chinese medicine involving the insertion of solid acupuncture needles into the skin at specific points on the body to achieve a therapeutic effect. No drug is injected. The needles alone create the beneficial effects of acupuncture.
Acupuncture is used to encourage natural healing, improve circulation, mood and energy, reduce or relieve pain and improve function of affected areas of the body. It is safe and effective and can compliment traditional medical therapy.
conditions it can help
Conditions for which acupuncture is effective and can be treated by physiotherapy include:
- low back pain, neck disorders/whiplash, headaches
- musculoskeletal conditions and sports injuries
- vertigo and dizziness
- fibromyalgia and neuralgias
- cancer pain/cancer treatment pain
Often there is improvement after one session, for some it may be 5-6 sessions to see a change in condition. Your physiotherapist can help determine if acupuncture is right for you.
